| Oh! It has been nearly two months since my last xanga entries was posted! I am very excited right now, not because I am having my Christmas and New Year break, but simply due to the fact that I CAN GET ACCESS TO XANGA, MSN and ICQ again, after the internet access from HK to international sites being severely disrupted by the damage to the 6 optical cables off the southern coast of Taiwan due to the 7.2-magnitude earthquake triggered off the coast of southern Taiwan at about 8:30pm HKT on the Boxing Day, exactly two years before Indian Ocean Tsunami, which killed at least 250000 people around the globe. Such a coincidence! Actually that will take at least a week for damage to be fixed before the internet access can be fully restored. Right now I am using free proxy service to divert my internet access pathway to international sites like Xanga off the affected route. The access speed is quite slow and insecure, but anyway I don't care much as long as I can logon again! When the first quake stroke, at about 830pm, I was at home with my family. Both my mum and I immediatedly noticed that it was indeed an earthquake, because of its magnitide and it lasted for about 1 min. All of us were a little scared because quake was quite strong. But about 10 mins later, the second quake was even stronger: I could see my computer desk, TV, doors and water in my cup slightly vibrating, maybe in Simple Harmonic Motion; One of my neighbours even screamed as if the hell was chasing after her. But of course when news about the quake began to emerge after a while, my neighbour noticed that maybe her hell was still far away from her for the time being. Anyway, that was a frightening experience. I am thinking that what would have been if the epicenter had been closer to HK, despite the Observatory official said that the risk in HK for having strong earthquakes happened in or close to HK is very low, with the average frequency of about once per 300 years. But maybe we are now in the 299th year. Who knows? | | |
